Club News
23-8-10 Glen led us in a recurve bow tuning workshop on the weekend. Seven of us attended this course at the factory. We leaned much at this 'hands on' workshop and we only scratched the surface, there is still much to learn about shooting arrows. We even remembered to vote! Thanks Glen - when did you say the next one was?

23-8-10 Ray has a new Progressive points tally for the club competition to July 2010. Have a look on the "Recorder's Info Page" at the Progressive club comp at July 2010
23-8-10 Ray also has a sweet tooth. How many jelly snakes can you count?

4-8-10 Dick shoots the tree and not the Clout.
I was told told it was the first practice end of the day and no one had any sight settings. After everyone else had found their arrows we all were needed to help Dick find his. (Dick is wearing the hat)
Would somone tell Pierre to look for the arrow in the tree and not the ground.

26-7-10 Thank you to everyone for another sucessful AGM. There were many nominations for the various positions and many others who gladly volunteer to do various tasks that need doing from time to time.

26-7-10 Daniel Drieburg (aged 9) is steadily improving as he learns to shoot arrows at 20m. Well done Daniel. It will not be long and he will get 6 arrows in the gold.

14-7-10 Eleven Archers from the club shot in the State Indoor championships last Sunday. Chris Barnett won GOLD in his division of Cadet Boys Compound. Andrew Tucker won GOLD in his division of Junior Boys Recurve. Geoff Wilkinson won SILVER in Men Masters Recurve followed by Ray Smith who won BRONZE in the in the same division. Doug Bruce shot well in the open men recurve division and scored 1005. Jody Dunne shot well in her division. Doug and Jody were in the same divisions as some very good archers from other clubs. Most said they shot below their best but despite the very long day it was a good shoot and everyone competed admirably. Congratulations to all.
Ray Smith on his way to a bronze medal, shooting at the 2010 State indoor championships

23-6-10 Ray has produced a new personal best and a new club comp standings. These can be found on the Recorder's Info Page.

23-6-10 This year's Annual General Meeting is on Saturday July 24th at the club grounds after the shoot. Any agenda items can be sent to the club secretary.

23/6/10 After 10 years, we have had to raise our shooting fees for people over the age of 21. This is the first price increse we have had in our shooting fees for ten years. We have found that our payments are not keeping pace with our income.
The new fees come into effect on Saturday 3rd of July. These new shooting fees are $5 for under 21 years of age. $10 for over 21 years of age. Those who need to hire club gear can do so after the beginners have picked there equipment. Fees for hiring equipment are an additional $5 per week.

29/5/10 It is with great sadness that I must report that we have lost our dear friend and fellow archer, Sandy Marshall. Sandy passed away peacefully on Sunday 23rd May 2010. We will all miss his humour and his presence at the club. He was an inspiration to all of us and it was an honour to have him as a member of our club for as long as we did.
Geoff Wilkinson
The funeral is on Thursday 10th June 10. At 11.30am at Karrakatta, meet at the front.

29/5/10 Callum Bruce shot his arrows into the ten at 20 meters using a recurve bow. Callum is 10 years old. Well done Callum

22/5/10 Daniel and Liam shooting in the rain and enjoying getting soaked while the rest of us are being sensible and hiding under shelter in the clubhouse waiting for the rain to pass.

22/5/10 Have you ever seen an arrow being shot from a bow? All arrows do this. The arrow is bending as it is being shot. This is caused by an effect called the Archer's paradox. The better the release, the less the arrow bends.

21/4/10 Ray Smith, our club recoder, has been busy and produced a new;
Personal best at 17th April 2010
Class and classification at 17 April 2010

21/4/2010 Scott did it again and needs another new arrow. If you want to know what he did to his arrow, have a look at his previous photographs.

12/4/10 There is no club shoot for April due to the long weekend for ANZAC day on the 25 of April. Many of our members will be away that weekend. It will be a normal club day, just not a club competion day.

27/3/10 Scott needs a new arrow. We only rebuilt the targets the other week. I wonder if the center is too hard?

13-3-10 Who would believe that Glenn Samuel did not have his 20m, 30m and 40m six gold, as well as his 20 and 40m perfect 60, but here he is receiving those awards from our club recorder, Ray Smith (on the right of the photo). Glenn is now busy working on the perfect 60 at many other distaces as well.

Baby Aroha was born on the 6 of Feb at Joondalup Hospital and she weighed 3.9kg. Allan and Angi are doing well as grandparents.

In preparation for the State Clout, the club will be running a Clout Training Day on Sunday 18 October 2009 at 9:00. Some come along to learn how to shoot clout, or get a little practice.
22/7/09 Thank you for the great turnout for the AGM on Saturday. We managed to get it done before the weather turned sour. And thanks to Prashant for a great Curry! Your quantities were spot on...
For the members who did not make the day, this is the list of the new Commitee members.

22/7/09 Hugh, has again been extra busy and has new "personal best scores", "class and classification" and "club comp". Are you impressed? (It must be the AGM). These new ones can be downloaded from the Recorder's Info Page.

16/7/09 Hugh, our club recorder, has again been busy yet again and has new "personal best scores", "class and classification"' and "club comp". Has yours changed? These can be downloaded from the Recorder's Info Page

6/7/09 Were back at the grounds this week. We were back last week where we heard all about the coaching camp and how good it was with Simon Fairweather (national head coach) and Clint Freeman as our coaches.
How many people do you recognise?

22/6/09 There will be no archery at the school this Saturday 28th June as many of our members will be at the coaching camp. There will also be no indoor archery on Thursday night 26th June. All will be back to normal the following week.

22/6/09 Ashleigh found his wedding ring!

26/5/09 An email has gone to all club members advising that the club Annual General Meeting will be held on Saturday 18th July at 11:00 am (or when we finish the shoot). This day will be a club day where we will shoot 60 arrows and have PIZZA and the AGM afterwards. If you have not got an email about this let me know.

21/5/09 Hugh, our club recorder, has again been busy and has new personal best scores and new "class and classification'. Has yours changed? These can be downloaded from the Recorder's Info Page

28/4/09 We had a busy bee last Thursday where we repaired some targets. I dont know why. Were only going to shoot holes in them again. Many thanks to those who attended. If you missed out on a good time do not worry we will have another busy bee soon.

20/4/09 We have the delightful problem of this club getting too big. We had over 60 people on the line the other day. As a result we will need to become a bit more formal and beginners will start every two months.
20/4/09 Hugh, our club recorder, has been busy again and has new personal best scores, class and classification and club competition progress standings. These can be downloaded from the Recorder's Info Page

7/4/09 Registration forms for the ASWA coaching camp are now available on the ASWA website. I hope you are going. It should bee good weekend in June. For more details about the camp download the information and regisration from the ASWA website. (http://www.archerywa.com.au)

7/4/09 Don't read this it's too boring, but if you are interested in how the club runs or want to have your say then talk to one of the club committee.

13/3/09 Be kind to Richard Taylor. Richard is our new equiipment officer. Richard was appointed at our last genaral meeting of our club. He has moved quickly and appointed many peole to help him.
Thanks to Allan Tew who has done this role largely by himself.

44-3-09 Glynis and Geoff travelled to Geelong for the Masters Games this last week and competed in Archery. They brought back many stories and several medals.

4-3-09 We had our second club competition day last Saturday 28-2-09. We did not work too hard. It was a good day.
There were some arrows shot.

22/2/09 Glenn Samuel is on the state team. He got his state team "T" shirt at the club yesterday. That is 3 on the team from our club! Glenn and Daniel will travel to Adelaide in South Austalia during April to compete in the national championships.

13/2/09 Our first club competition was held on the 31st of January. It was a good turn out. The photo shows some of our members shooting according to ability.

29/1/09 Our first club competition day is this Saturday. Be sure you enrol for this event. Club members can enrol using the page on this site called "Match Enrolment". (The link is on the menu on the left)

29/1/09 Aaron Ong amazed us all! What is special about this photo is the size of the group at 30 meters on a 80cm target face. Aaron is a new club member and used a club bow yet he still produced groups of arrows like this. Good club coaching can help produce some amazing results.

13/1/09 Yes we are back this Saturday!!! Be aware of major changes this year. Beginners now need to pay $80 for the 6 week course. (Gone are the days of $10 per week.) This fee entitles you to your own Personal Protection Equipment (Finger Tab and Armguard), basic training aid and instruction handbook. We have had to put up our modest fees but beginners can pay in two blocks. See the page "Beginning Archery" for more details.

14/12/08 We are closed for the Christmas break but we are open again on the 17th of January 2009. Merry Christmas and a happy new year to all. See you in the new year.

25/11/08 Our end of year fun day is on the 13/11/08. See the flyer for details.

20/11/08 State team Members have been announced and we have two people on the state team. Our adult member is Daniel Tew. Our Junior member is... You will have to come to the club to find out as this webmaster does not like to use Juniors names on the internet.

16/11/08 The fletchling tounament was on today. We had several entries and several placegetters. Well done to you all. Here are a few photos, How many people do you recognise?

9/11/08 Peter Lennox is our new tounament diretor. Peter will be looking after the club competion and the structured shoots for us all. If you have any question about any tounament at all, ask him but be kind to him, the shock of being on the committee is enough for anyone. Good on ya Peter.
17/10/08 We are back this Saturday morning. We will be back to normal shooting after the club ran a great state clout competition last week, well done to you all, and the visit from Ken Birch (the state coach) the week before, with the Wilkinsons away on holiday, this Saturday looking to be a busy with lots of first timers likely.

7/10/08 The 2008 State Clout is being run by our club this coming weekend. There will be no club meeting this Saturday morning but come along to the State Archery Centre, Beechborough Road (north) to help set up and have some pratice at clout.

19/9/08 Stewart entered the state bare bow field Championships last week at Baldivis. It rained on him and the wind was strong yet he managed to finish well. Good on ya Stewart.

10/9/08 Have you ever seen a Robin Hood? This is where one arrow goes down the back of another. Pierre did it on the 30/8/08. He will have to buy a new arrow but I don't think he is complaining.

28/7/08 We had some success in the teams and individual events at the State and National Indoor Championships. There were 18 Teams in the Open teams division Nationally and WA took out the trifecta. No fewer than 4 of our members took out a placing.
1st - ASWA RGB Recurve Team, including Andrew Jenkins
1st - WA Open Recurve Team “Two & Tew”, including Daniel Tew
3rd – WA Masters Recurve Team “Alvin & the Chipmunks”, including Glynis Wilkinson & Geoff Wilkinson
The National Open Mens Recurve individual results rank Andrew Jenkins in third place and Daniel Tew in 5th place, while Glynis Wilkinson finished 4th in the Masters Womens Recurve division and Terry Clarke finished 8th in the Veteran Mens Recurve, Michael Oborne finished 6th in the Intermediate Boys Recurve.
There were others who finished well from our club. Congratulations to all.
For full results have a look at http://www.worldindoorarcherychallenge.com.au

19/7/08 We practiced for the State and National Indoor Championships at "the factory unit". If you hit the concrete wall not only do you destroy an arrow but you also have to sign the mark on the wall. There is only one signature. Just ask David McMeechan.

6-6-08 Keith is about to open his field course on the 29th of June and we are all invited. He has had a bit of trouble with the rain. Check out this photo! Keith recons "The heavy rain we had last weekend dropped just on 50mm or 35,ooo litres of water to pump out"

If you want to go to the opening here is a flyer.

1-6-08 Eight members of AOG met at the shooting complex at Whiteman park for what proved to be ideal conditions for Grand Prix 5, a FITA Star event hosted by Sunset Coast Archers.
The days shooting commensed with the usual contingency of high standard archers from various clubs capable of huge scores, and we wern't to be disapointed. Scores of well over 1300 were achieved by a few compound archers. And well over 1200 from one of our very own recurve archer, Andrew Jenkins. Andrew finished with a 1269 and first place, and Daniel Tew finished up with about 1180 in second place. Very respectable scores on both counts.
AOG had one archer who fell victim of the grueling FITA round in Terry Clarke. Terry did not finish and bailed out with an injured arm.
AOG collected more medals by good efforts by Glynis Wilkinson with over 1100 in the ladies masters recurve division and hubby Geoff Wilkinson with his second place medal for masters recurve division. The medals continued with Intermediate archer Michael Oborn with his second place medal for the recurve division with a score of just under 1000. Great efforts were made by David McMeechan in the open recurve division and yours truly with a personal best of 1151 in the open compound division.
So all in all a good effort by all of Greenwood archers, well done.

24-5-08 Yes it was wet again, but we gave our new tent a real workout. It is winter after all, or is it still spring? Either way, the new tent kept us dry until the rain passed and we could shoot again.

26-4-08 The club hosted the Northern District League today. This was a "meet and greet" day as we were out to have some fun and meet new friends. It was a good day. 47 archers were on the line. 28 from our club and 19 from other clubs in the league.
On the shooting line at the Northern District League

Michael shooting his Longbow at the Northern District League

5-4-08 Yes it was wet but we were still there. These boys had fun. We even had one brave person begin archery! Hopefully we will have kinder weather next week.
