Our Club

Archery for fun and friendship.

The "Archers of Greenwood" club was formed around 9 years ago with the aim of being an archery club of low cost that families and others can belong to. We are not all top elite archers although we have a few of those people in our club. Most of us are simply club archers who enjoy archery for the fun of shooting arrows and for the friendships we make along the way.

We are a target archery club that promote interclub events with other similar clubs.

We have good grounds that have sufficient room to offer target, field and clout. We have no buildings. We are a club in a trailer. All of our club equipment is brought to the grounds each week.

All of the club committee members are volunteers. No one in the club is paid. There is a job for everyone. Some of us volunteer on the committee. Some of us work with the club equipment. All members can do something to help the club. We expect all club members to help the club with setting up and packing away each week.

Shooting fees for club members are $5:00 each week.

Annual membership fees are due each year and when a person joins the club. These fees are levied on a pro rata basis depending on the time of the year a person joins the club. Fees are currently $160* for an adult fee for each year and $95* for under 18 years old. Family rates are also available. These fees are for club fees, registration with the Archery Society of Western Australia and membership of Archery Australia.

The Archery Society of Western Australia runs tounaments, selects and manages state teams, provides advanced coaching and other services to our archers.

Archery Australia provides our insurance cover, selects and manages national teams, provides elite level coaching and other services for our archers.

We run a club competition each year. There are several shoots, held once per month, that add together to make up the total points for the year. Past winners include younger archers and archers of limited ability. This tounnament is free for club members but we do expect you to pay the shooting fee. This is a handicap event. Our elite archers are not likely to win this competition. But realistically, the rest of us are not likely to win anything else.

Many of our archers have achieved classification as defined in Archery Australia rules. There are many awards available for each of the diciplines of field, outdoor target, indoor target, clout and flight. Check out the Archery Society of Western Australia website or the Archery Australia website for details.

Some of our members are accredited club coaches. We teach to a syllabus that results in little retraining of an archer seeking to go to the Australian Institute of Sport.

There are many of us who do not aspire to compete in international events like the Olympic Games (or Para Olympics). If you do aspire to compete in these events we could help you. This club is at a beginning of a pathway to help athletes compete in international events. We have formal links to the Australian Institute of Sport, Archery Australia, Olympic Games committee and the Commonwealth Games committee, through the Archery Society of Western Australia.

We offer coaching at the club level. For those that have progressed beyond the skills of a club coach we can provide access to the expertise of the archery “High Performance” coach in this state.
